Hawaiian Bite-size SPAM Skewers

  

We know what you're thinking ... SPAM?  YES!  Spam has been a cultural staple in Hawaii since it was served to the GI's in World War II, by the end of the war it had been adopted into the local culture and  became a fixture for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 

These delightful appetizer skewers are the perfect blend of sweet and salty with a little spicy kick. 
This recipe makes 12 - 15 skewers.

INGREDIENTS

Preheat oven to 375°

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the Spam into seven slices, then cut each slice into 8pcs, around ¾ inch size. This should yield about 56 pieces.
  3. Cut the peppers and onion into ¾ inch pieces. Be sure to keep them separated.
  4. For each skewer put 1pc of red onion, 1 pc of spam, 1 pc of yellow pepper, 1 pc of spam and 1pc of red pepper and so on until your skewers are full. Lay the skewers at the baking pan.
  5. Mix the melted butter and Hawaiian Pineapple & Serrano Sauce then baste the skewers completely with the sauce mix.
  6. Cook in the oven for 20 minutes total; flipping the skewers and basting with more sauce every 5 minutes.
  7. Remove the tray from the oven and move the skewers to a plate.

Serve them warm with a side of WD Hawaiian Pineapple & Serrano Everything Sauce #3 for dipping.
