Golden Fig & Honey Baklava Roses

Baklava can seem like a daunting task, but these roses are so simple and delightful for any tea-time snack or as a morning pastry.

Not overly sweet, the Golden Fig & Honey Charcuterie Preserve brings out a light sweetness to the rich flavour of roasted Pistachios, Almonds, and Walnuts; and, by using Coconut Oil instead of butter, these treats are Vegan Friendly!

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar of WD Golden Fig & Honey Charcuterie Preserve
  • 1 C Roasted Pistachios
  • ½ C Roasted Almonds
  • ½ C Roasted Walnuts
  • 1 C Coconut Oil
  • 1 Box of Filo Pastry. (About 12 sheets)

Directions:

  1. If you have not purchased dry roasted nuts, preheat your over to 300oF
  2. Mix your nuts in a bowl with a small amount of neutral oil, then spread them over a cookie sheet and bake for 6 - 8 minutes.  Not too long and watch them so they don’t burn.

  3. Take the nuts out of the oven and put back in your bowl to cool.

  4. Turn your oven up to 350oF to heat up for baking your roses.

  5. Coarsely chop your nuts in a food processor or with a knife.

  6. Remove the lid and microwave the Golden Fig & Honey for 1 minute, stirring every 15 seconds.

  7. Mix 2/3 jar of the Golden Fig & Honey with the crushed nuts and set aside.

  8. Put the coconut oil in a bowl and microwave for 10 - 15 seconds, until the oil is fully melted.

  9.  Now that everything is in place, start making your roses!  Place one sheet of the Filo Pastry on your counter and brush with the oil. Scrunch the pastry from the top and bottom and then from the sides to the middle of the rectangle creating a well in the middle.  Scoop up one spoonful of the nut and preserve mixture and place in the well.

  10. Then, starting from the top left, fold each petal across the filling going clockwise.  Once those petals are folded in, turn the rose over and scrunch the edges together to create a flower.  Place your rose on a baking sheet lined with parchment or cast-iron pan, petal-side down.  Repeat until all the Philo has been filled, one sheet at a time. Bake your roses at 350oF for 15 minutes.

  11. While those bake, add 3 Tbl of hot water to the jar with the remaining 1/3 jar of our Golden Fig & Honey and microwave 30 seconds to melt the preserve and create your Honey drizzle.  Drizzle each rose with the liquid as soon as they come out of the oven and let sit so it can seep in.

Makes about 12 Roses that you can serve warm or cold.
